Bright Shiny Object Syndrome

The rules have changed. 10 years ago, if you were to create a website and offered a free report, you’ll generate sign ups almost instantly. Spamming, email marketing, promotions, product launches and other internet marketing campaigns were never heard of.

If you were to create a sales letter promoting a product, you’ll end up closing nearly 90% of all traffic to your website, why? Competition was extremely low during that time. Internet marketing was not born yet and people were making huge amounts of money.

Imagine if you time travelled back during that time and tried your usual marketing strategies such as sales letters, video marketing letters, free reports, newsletters and forums, you’ll create so much success out of it.

Why People Succeeded Online In The Last Decade

This is the reason why you see so many individuals who started their internet businesses during that time who profited extremely well during the “post dot com crash boom” era. Blog sites that were built during that time are earning incredible amounts of authority due to a decade of written content, frequent posting and more.

Fast forward to today and you’ll see a huge and massive tidal wave of people promoting “how to make money online” products and courses. We are bombarded with so much internet marketing emails and campaigns we simply don’t know what to do anymore.

Example Of The Bright Shiny Object Syndrome

Have you ever walked in a mall and as you are walking, you see someone standing there with a handful of pamphlets and he/she is staring at you and about to hand it to you. As you are walking to this person, you automatically move around this person, making no eye contact and politely saying “no thanks” and continue walking.

The mall is the internet, people handing out pamphlets are the “make money online” offers, except they are everywhere! These offers are now becoming the bright shiny object syndrome.

Too many offers and our BS detector goes off. We automatically know how the game works and how it’s played. However, in my experience, 80% are the losers and 20% are truly the winners in Internet Marketing.

Have you ever been taught a business model online such as membership sites, blogging, ebook creation and you find yourself excited but then somewhere along the line, you end up doing something else?

Why is this the case?

It’s called the bright shiny object syndrome. The fact is that we live in a world of continuous interruption, we have email, we have twitter, we have Facebook and more. We get notifications left, right and center. After several years of this, little do we know, we are being programmed to be interrupted.

We Are Being Programmed For Interruption

The sound of a ringtone automatically makes you stop what you are doing and look for your phone. After several years of being hooked on our phones, we become addicted and it also becomes a habit of using our phones everywhere.

Question, when was the last time we didn’t check our phones during dinner? Next time you sit at a restaurant, look around and see how many people at a table looking at their phones. It’s crazy. Of course, I’m a serious victim of this, I find it hard to not check my phones and emails, I’m only human.

Therefore, today we live in a world were we have so many people contacting us on all media platforms, hence we are distracted.

This constant distraction is one of the biggest killers to people’s success online. This constant distraction is the bright shiny object syndrome.

The people who really succeed online have focused, worked hard and disciplined themselves to work on their business every single day and sometimes for many years. They never got side tracked with another business opportunity and they worked on their business and grew it.

Look at all of the success giants, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Donald Trump, all of them, they all focused on their key strengths and let it grew. After 30 years of focus and determination, they achieved mastery and their businesses compounded into massive success.

Internet Marketing And Bright Shiny Objects

To reflect this example onto the Internet Marketing world, let’s use the blogging business as an example. We all know that the blogging business is a long term business. You can not generate huge amounts of passive income over night, you need to work at it, every single day.

You need to write quality articles, every single day and wait for it to rank high in the search engines. There is no way you can write an article and get it ranking #1 and generating a million hits per day as soon as you click on “publish”. It doesn’t work like that.

However if you watch all of the successful bloggers and also check their background, they all have a common pattern of their success. They started many years ago, they focused on their blog, they wrote in it every day and most importantly, they never got distracted from any business opportunity and stopped blogging.

2-5 years later, their blog grew into a massive success and then bingo, huge passive income for life.

Therefore I would like to conclude that if you are struggling to make a success out of an internet marketing project, a business opportunity I would recommend is signing up to a course called “focus and finish”. It’s valued at 1.1 million dollars but it’s yours for free but only limited for the first 12 people icon wink How To Avoid The Bright Shiny Object Syndrome In Internet Marketing

“No Hocus Pocus, Just Focus.”

Good journey.
